Cats are fond or attracted of things that are in motion, compared to dogs. Though our feline pet sleep most of the time and scratches our doors, walls or even the sides of the sofa at some times, they also need to play and develop their skills. We all know that a cat is fast enough to chase the rats, but is that good enough? There are times that their reflexes must be trained, too. Cats, as compared to dogs, love aggression playing or training. They love sudden movements that are used for hunting. And that can be seen whenever they chase rats in our kitchen. Due to their aggressive nature, cat toy manufacturers tend to produce predatory toys for them to enjoy.
This tutorial will help you create a fun, inexpensive and easy form of cat toy that is commonly seen in pet shops. Instead of using the traditional piece of feather, we will be creating our own pompom as the bait for this motion cat toy. This is a cool activity that cat lovers would definitely enjoy. So let’s begin making this useful toy!
Prepare all the materials needed for this tutorial:
- 2 colors of yarn
- a crochet thread
- a pair of chopsticks
- red scotch tape
- a pair of scissors
Step 1: Wrap the two colors of yarn simultaneously on your fingers. You can use three to four fingers for these. The size of the pompom would depend on your preference.
Step 2: Cut the yarn when you already have a generous layer of yarn wrapped around your fingers.
Step 3: Wrap the center of the yarn with a crochet thread. Make sure to loop the crochet thread around twice or thrice the yarn body.
Step 4: Cut the folded ends of the yarn and do this for both ends.
Step 5: Puff the strands of the pompom to create equal spacing in between.
Step 6: Tape the two chopsticks together to create a longer stick that will be used for this motion toy.
Step 7: Cut a meter long of the crochet thread.
Step 8: Tape the crochet thread on one side of the stick. Makes sure to wrap the stick with generous amounts of tape to assure the stability of the thread on the stick.
Step 9: Add details to the stick. You can continue the wrapping of the colored tape around the body of the stick. This will make the motion cat toy more attractive.
Step 10: Tie the free end of the crochet thread in the center of the pompom tightly. Take note that your pet cat will try to hook the pompom so make sure that the pompom is firmly attached to the thread.
Step 11: Done and ready to use! You can now have some quality time with your pet cat using this fun and easy motion cat toy!
This motion toy can be used anytime and if you want the toy to be pretty challenging, you have the option to lengthen the thread so that it can have more room for your cat to explore. You can also modify the pompom if you want to use different colors or even replace it with other bait. Your cat would highly appreciate this motion toy that you gave them. Hope you cat loves
